I attended church with my wife this past Sunday and the sermon was about All Saints Day. As a part of the sermon, the pastor said we are “pulled into time by God’s loving intention”. This got me thinking about something I haven’t thought about in 20 years…
Does God “work” within the boundaries of space and time? Is God outside of time? How does this impact determinism and free will?
It has been so long since I considered this and other related questions, that I had forgotten that there is a considerable amount of material out there on this issue.
If one answers in the affirmative, i.e., that God is outside of time, that gives us an easy out regarding one of the big questions….how do you reconcile God being all-knowing with human free will? Does that solve the riddle….or does that just give us something further to consider?
On the other hand, what does it mean if God were subject to time? If God is subject to the constraint of time, then might he be other that what has been described to us…all-knowing and all-powerful.
I suppose we need to do some thinking about what time and causality are.
